Lumbayag - a hiligaynon term which means exaggerated action or movements. It could also mean dancing cheerfully and actively in a graceful manner. No doubt it is used to name a festival celebrated in Brgy. Taloc.
Lumbayag sa Taloc made its mark in history in 1983. The founder and the first organizer was then Brgy. Kagawad Delia Teovisio, the present barangay captain. The first participants were the members of the Women’s Club of the 20 puroks who are 18 years old and older and are married. They wear their uniforms to signify that they are Women’s Club member with matching long pants. They parade in front of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church up to the Brgy. Gym. They dance with full of energy to a pop music which is the current fad. The main purpose of this celebration is to unite the people of Taloc and give enjoyment in everyone’s heart.
Since the first celebration was a success it continued until now. Certain changes were made on the mechanics of the contest. The participants are not only Women’s Club member but any resident who is 10 years old and above. From 20 puroks that joined, there are now 25 puroks that participate in the said celebration. Now they use costumes appropriate to the theme given each year. Still, the music used is current fad songs. Instead of walking along the road the organizers decided to have it as a street dancing instead to make it more exciting and enjoyable for the spectators. The dance parade still starts across the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church and the participants perform at the barangay gym.
The organizers are looking forward in continuing the celebration. And they hope that each year, more spectators would come and witness the talents of the residents of Barangay Taloc.
